Moving to New Zealand

The 2 routes into New Zealand we have on record, and what each one actually requires. This is published information, not an assessment of your case.

What it actually requires

Points-based pathway: 6 points - 3 to 6 from one skill category (qualification, New Zealand occupational registration, or income of at least 1.5 times the SMC wage threshold) plus up to 3 more for skilled work experience IN New Zealand; a bachelor's degree is worth 5 points if gained in New Zealand and 4 if gained elsewhere. Skilled Work Experience pathway: at least 5 years of directly relevant work experience, including at least 2 years of skilled work experience in New Zealand. Trades and Technician pathway: a relevant qualification and at least 4 years of post-qualification work experience, including at least 18 months of skilled work experience in New Zealand. New Zealand also has a citizenship-by-descent route, which is a different kind of claim: it can mean you already hold the right rather than qualifying for one.
